VOLUNTEERS -- MAKING IT HAPPEN
Thank
you to members of our chapter who have volunteered to learn from
volunteer mentors about jobs they're interested in doing at our
testing events. These positions include everything from becoming
a Bird Planter to coordinating lunches to becoming a Test Secretary.
Have you thought that you would like to help out but didn't know
how? Volunteer for our training program. Learn how to do the job
without the pressure. Do you have skills you would like to pass
on to others? Consider becoming a mentor. To learn more about this
new program contact Secretary,

From the June 2003 news letter: Last month it was mentioned that
the board discussed whether or not to add more tests to the schedule
this year and no decision was made. That is still the case. This
is a tough decision because it takes people and time to organize
and run the tests. The people who chair the tests are oftentimes
scrambling for volunteers right up to the weekend of the test. At
the May board meeting there was still a need for volunteers for
the June Full Test and the Pheasant Championship. This is called
“flying by the seat of our pants.”
As a growing chapter we are experiencing growing pains. The Volunteer/Mentoring
Program was started with the hopes of training people to build up
a large volunteer base to draw from. This would help ease some of
those pains. Here is an opportunity to learn the ropes without the
full responsibility. Even as you are training you are helping out.

With more people becoming involved, the more efficient we become
and the less pressure and stress there is on everyone to put an
event together. The Mock Test was a good example of how it should
be. There was a great turnout of both participants and volunteers.
Everything ran smoothly and the workers weren’t run ragged.
It was a pleasant experience. With a situation like that volunteering
is a lot of fun. Having everything in place well beforehand is the
way to go. Deciding to add a test would not be a painstaking, risky
decision. Everyone in our chapter benefits. What more can you ask
for?
We have 3 big tests and the Pheasant Championship coming up. Any
amount of your time donated would be greatly appreciated. Call the
contacts for those events (see the calendar) and let them know you
can be there! We need everyone’s help.
